2017 Design Trends

Are you interested in what design trends will be around in 2017? Well, we have searched Houzz, Elle Décor, architectural digest, model homes, and several design websites to see what the top 5 trends will be this year, and we think they are pretty exciting! We do get a little excited when it comes to real estate and design!

#1: Adding wood treatments and natural elements around the home. And one of the most forgotten places to add a great design feature is the ceiling! Draw your eyes up with a fabulous wood treatment in a vaulted ceiling or maybe some incredible beams in the kitchen. We’re also seeing wood treatments added to kitchen islands, fireplace surrounds, and breakfast rooms. Our world is so heavy with technology, that adding wood treatments and natural wood furniture to the home is very calming and pleasing, so we can all reconnect with nature!

#2: Painted cabinetry. Yes, it might be time to add a little color to your cabinets, whether it’s in the kitchen, on the island, master bath. We are seeing a lot of great blue colors, and navy is a really beautiful choice for a painted cabinet. It’s sharp and hardware looks even better on a rich color! We’re also seeing upper cabinets white and base cabinets painted a different color and vice versa. Definitely a bold move, so paint wisely!

#3: Satin brass. No, it’s not your shiny brass that everyone has worked so hard (and some are still working) to get rid of…this is a gorgeous finish on hardware, whether it’s a faucet or knobs and pulls. We’ve seen it recently in a model home, and it is stunning! It also looks fantastic on navy cabinetry! Remember, satin brass, not ugly, shiny brass.

#4: Bold, patterned tiles. Bold and beautiful! What a fun way to show personality through tile, and we’re seeing it in the kitchen on the backsplash & bathroom floor tiles. You can have a blast choosing a stylish tile that makes a real statement, but be careful if you’re planning on selling your home. Those bold tiles might be too taste specific for some buyers. This is just for you to enjoy (and maybe in a powder bath as an accent, if you’re going to be selling) & we can help you choose a more neutral tile for your home when selling with us!

#5: A bonus design paint color trend…warm taupe paint colors are popping up everywhere & I like it! Sherwin Williams named Poised Taupe the color of the year for 2017! It’s not as icy as some grays can go, but it’s not a typical beige color either. It’s a lovely balance. Pottery Barn has a gorgeous living room using Poised Taupe, and the white trim really pops
